SHERIDAN, Wyo. (January 16, 2018) – Whitney Center for the Arts welcomes internationally acclaimed Latin funk band, John Roberts Y Pan Blanco, for a performance Saturday, February 3 at 7 p.m. John Roberts is widely regarded as a musical genius and has been touring, recording, and performing in Los Angeles, around the U.S., Mexico, India, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, Australia and Africa for the last 17 years. He has performed and recorded with Fallout Boy, Chris Botti, Feist, Sting, Dr. Dre, Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga, Frank Sinatra Jr., Chaka Khan, Burt Bacharach, The Ojays, and Christina Aguilera. He has toured with Ricardo Lemvo and Makina Loca (Congolese/Cuban), Bobby Womack (Soul), Los Pinguos (Argentine),The Temptations, and The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra. Johh Roberts Y Pan Blanco is a seven-piece ensemble known for its danceable, original scores influenced by West African, Funk, Soul, Salsa, Jazz and R&B and globally inspired lyrics performed in Spanish, English and Portuguese. “John is an incredible performer and musician with credits across the globe – and because he has roots in Montana, we get a chance to see him perform right here at Sheridan College,” said Whitney Center for the Arts director, Dr. Erin Hanke. “This band puts on an electric show – you don’t want to miss this.”

After 17 years based in Los Angeles, the Montana-born Roberts is now teaching jazz, music theory, low brass and world music at MSU Billings. He regularly works and performs as a clinician and guest artist in schools, continuing to hone his skills as an educator by sharing the “real world” of music with his students. He also continues to perform in Los Angeles and around the world.

John Roberts Y Pan Blanco fiddle player, Trevor Krieger, has performed with Alison Kraus, Ray Charles, The Allman Brothers, Gov’t Mule, Kenny Chesney, Jay Ungar/Molly Mason, Jeff Troxel, Calvin Volrath, Johnny Gimble, Brian Wicklund, Matt Combs, Matt Flinner, and Mark O’Connor. Fran “Cuco” Martinez–on the congas, shekere and vocals–comes from a lineage of well-known, respected musicians and teachers in Havana, Cuba. Cuco is a multi-instrumentalist, playing timbales, congas, bongo, shekere and bass, and has performed worldwide for the past 30 years. Living in Los Angeles for many years he has recorded and toured extensively (Africa, Caribbean, South America, Europe, Asia, Mexico, Australia) with Ricardo Lemvo and Makina Loca, as well as performing and recording with Celia Cruz, Arturo Sandoval, The Rolling Stones, and Johnny Martinez.
