Sheridan, WYO (November 30, 2017) – The second annual CHRISTMAS SWING! featuring the Sheridan College Faculty Jazztet and Sheridan College Symphonic Band at the Whitney Center for the Arts (WCA) at Sheridan College happens Thursday, December 7 at 7 p.m. Performance highlights will include A Charlie Brown Christmas – LIVE, Sleigh Ride, The Christmas Song, original works by Sheridan College’s own Dr. Eric Richards, and more. This concert is free and open to the public.

Featured soloists include Martha Castillero, vocal instructor at Sheridan College, and Landon Alsup, clarinet.  The Sheridan College Faculty Jazztet includes Erik Olson, saxophone; Dr. Eric Richards, trombone; Dr. Christian Erickson, piano, Parker Brown, bass; and Keller Paulson, drums. The Sheridan College Symphonic Band includes 65 musicians from Sheridan College and the Sheridan community.

Dr. Eric Richards is the Director of Bands and Jazz Studies at Sheridan College where he serves as music director of the Sheridan College Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble, and works with faculty colleagues to develop program initiatives in recruiting, outreach, and curriculum development.  Dr. Richards previously held the position of tenured Associate Professor of Composition and Jazz Studies in the Glenn Korff School of Music at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

“Christmas Swing! was presented for the first time last year and is quickly becoming a holiday favorite,” said Erin Hanke, director of the WCA.  “The Sheridan College Symphonic Band and Faculty Jazztet present festive arrangements of contemporary holiday classics, including A Charlie Brown Christmas—LIVE!, arranged by Sheridan College’s own Dr. Chris Erickson. Christmas Swing! is the perfect way to usher in the holiday season.”
